Assistant Professor | Producing for Media
The Department of Visual & Media Arts at Emerson College seeks to fill a full-time faculty position in producing for television/film/interactive media. Appointment may be as an Artist-in-Residence in Producing or a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Producing depending on qualifications and experience. The appointment begins August 24, 2017.
Qualifications: A BA or BFA is required and an M.F.A. or Ph.D. degree is preferred, but candidates with significant professional experience will also be considered. Applicants should have at least one year of college level teaching experience and the ability to teach in a diverse college community. Candidates are expected to demonstrate professional achievement that includes producing narrative fiction or nonfiction originating on video, film or online platforms and to have had work broadcast and/or distributed nationally and/or internationally. The successful candidate will be able to teach classes in one or more of the following areas: producing episodic or long-form drama, producing documentary, producing comedy, producing for web-based platforms, business of the media producer. Responsibilities include advising undergraduates as well as individual advanced projects at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and appropriate college service. The department is especially interested in filmmakers whose point of view informs their work, exploring voices, experiences, and contributions of historically underrepresented groups in the U.S. or globally.
The Department of Visual and Media Arts is a vibrant and engaged community of artists, creators and scholars, with over 100 full and part-time faculty members and over 1600 majors. The department offers BA degrees in Media Studies and Media Production, a BFA in Media Production, an MFA in Film and Media Art, a low residency MFA in Writing Film and Television, general education courses in art history, and contributes to an interdisciplinary BFA in Comedic Arts.
