The California State University, Northridge, Department of Cinema and Television Arts invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of screenwriting for our undergraduate and M.F.A. in Screenwriting programs. We seek a skilled screenwriter with significant television writing experience. Short-form and/or transmedia storytelling experience are also desirable. Candidates should be active in their fields, with a strong record of professional achievement and proficiency in the techniques, practices, histories and/or theories of media art. Additional areas of expertise may include writing for animation, games, or immersive and/or other emerging media. Candidates must also have teaching experience, preferably at the university or college level.

Responsibilities include participation in the development and growth of the Screenwriting Option and the M.F.A. Screenwriting program. Teach introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses in the Screenwriting Option and graduate courses in the M.F.A. Screenwriting program. Serve on graduate screenwriting thesis committees. Conduct and disseminate discipline-specific research and/or creative work. Advise students, develop curriculum and participate in faculty governance. Contribute professionally at the state and national levels. For purposes of reappointment, tenure and promotion, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, scholarly and/or creative achievement, and service to the University and community. Teaching may be assigned in a second area of expertise appropriate to the qualifications of the candidate, including courses in the General Education.

 • Terminal degree in related field from an accredited institution required.

 • Demonstrated successful teaching experience required, preferably at the university or college level.

 • Demonstrated professional experience in writing for television required. Demonstrated professional experience in writing for film, transmedia, short-form projects (e.g., web series), animation, and/or emerging or immersive media desired.

 • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds required.

 • Willingness to participate in the university’s commitment to obtaining research and creative activity support from Federal, State, corporate, and foundation sponsored programs desired.  

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the United

States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to work in the United States.
